Debi's Bio

Debi with her brother, sister and DadIn addition to her successful career as one of Hollywood’s most active voice-over artists, multi-talented kids’ entertainer Debi Derryberry is passionate about writing and performing in front of live audiences. Today she’s turning that passion into a burgeoning second career as a singer/songwriter of award-winning children’s CDs and an author. “Not a day goes by,” Debi says, “when I don’t think about a new verse, or melody, or idea for a story that I’d like to share.” Probably best known as “the voice of Jimmy Neutron,” Debi recently released her second CD, “Very Derryberry,” which features an engaging collection of original and classic tunes. And she’s very excited about her latest creative endeavor: her first-ever children’s book, “Baby Banana and the Licorice Tree,” publishing in fall ’08.

Debi was born and raised in the quiet desert community of Indio, California, reaping the benefits of a close and loving family who encouraged her to pursue her dreams. When she was only nine years old, she got her first guitar and wrote “My Dog’s My Buddy,” which is featured on her first CD, “What A Way to Play.” Debi excelled in high school, serving as captain of the gymnastics team and on the student council; graduated from UCLA as a pre-med candidate; and ultimately, seeking to explore her creative side, moved to Nashville, Tennessee. After three years in Music City, she returned to Los Angeles to launch her voice-over career – and has garnered feature roles in numerous high-profile films and TV shows.

Debi’s film work includes the voice of Jimmy Neutron in the Academy Award-nominated Paramount/Nickelodeon film, "Jimmy Neutron-Boy Genius," and voice-over roles in “Ice Age 2” and Disney’s “The Wild.” On the small screen, some of her most prominent work includes Gnocchi from “Curious George,” Clay on Playhouse Disney, Weenie from “Oswald the Octopus,” Ryo Ohki from “Tenchi Muyo,” Jackie from “Bobby’s World,” Jeannie from the Emmy Nominated “Life with Louie” and Wednesday from “The Addams Family.”

Also an on-camera actress, Debi’s credits include iCarly and the features "Ghostworld," "Comic Book the Movie” and “Free Willy.” In that film, Debi was the stunt double who actually rode the whale!

Debi was a member of the Los Angeles-based country music band Honey Pig for six years, writing and producing most of the songs on their two CDs, “Exactly As We Are” and “Clueless You.” Voted one of the top 100 L.A. bands for three years running, Honey Pig sang at Dodgers and Lakers games and even had a song on NPR’s much-listened-to show, “Car Talk.”

For many years a strong advocate for animals, Debi is currently involved with the organization Safety Around Dogs, which features her song “My Dog’s My Buddy” on their website. A 2006 board member of the Screen Actor’s Guild and a 2003 recipient of a "Women of Achievement" Award, Debi is the devoted mom of a seven-year-old, balancing the demands of motherhood along with her professional career – thanks to much-appreciated help from her husband and from her mom, who lives nearby.
