“ She’s not only the voice of Jimmy Neutron, Debi Derryberry can really sing! Her new CD Very Derryberry is an enjoyable mix of mostly original and some familiar tunes that are well written, produced and performed. Derryberry’s voice is a wonderful instrument, irresistible and filled with fun and frolic – a heartfelt tribute to childlike joy and wonder that will easily pass the ‘play it again’ test!”

Z Top Pick!
“Like her voice, which contains both a Kristin Hersh-like huskiness and the high register of the perfect Boy or Girl #1 for your next cartoon, Debi Derryberry's sensibilities walk a fine line on her second kids' album, but her sweet tooth has enough of an edge to keep Very Derryberry from descending into the saccharine cesspool of forced jollity and feigned innocence. Blending rollicking rearrangements of traditional tunes like ‘Animal Fair’ and ‘Skinnamarink’ with great originals like ‘The Tonsil Song’ and ‘I Bit An Apple,’ this album is perfect for two- to five-year-olds, offering a blend of tunes and lyrics that invite singing along and gently encourage an approach to life that starts and ends with a sunny, inquisitive disposition. Derryberry's ‘The Very Very Song’ is one of the best question-and-answer songs I've come across in a long time, and her ‘I Love To Share’ showcases her ability to serve meaning on multiple levels of her audience range.”

Out With The Kids
“Debi Derryberry delivers an undeniably pleasant collection of kiddie-rock tunes on her new disc Very Derryberry … aimed at the toddler set but absolutely perfect for the older-infant and pre-toddler age groups. Really though, the tunes are able to be enjoyed by anyone with a cheeky sense of style and humor … Debi's playful voice invokes an overwhelming sense of 1950's-styled innocence. I envision the band in poodle-skirts playing soda fountain shoppes and ice cream parlours nationwide (now that would be a cool tour!)”

The voice of Jimmy Neutron has so much more to say, and 'What A way To Play!' emphasizes this prurient point: great arrangements, solid performance and careful song selection will always carry the day! I encourage Ms. Derryberry to continue on this path — thanks for a nice album.

EDITORS’ PICKS!
The little-bit-country, little-bit-jazzy, little-bit-rockabilly voice of Debi Derryberry has a certain ring to it. Perhaps there’s a twang of Jimmy Neutron or maybe an echo of Weenie from ‘Oswald the Octopus’? With hundreds of animated characters to her voice-over credit, Derryberry’s debut kids’ CD, What A Way To Play!, taps her kid-hit vocal talents with a mix of original titles and contemporary takes on classics. Our fave: “My Dog’s My Buddy,” written when Derrybery (now mom to a 5-year-old) was just 9 years old.

Debi Derryberry is best known as the voice of "Jimmy Neutron." Knowing that, you can sometimes hear glimpses of Jimmy. Overall, Debi's voice is extremely talented and pleasant for even repeated listening. She has a pure, soft, child-like quality that lends itself equally to everything from lullabies to mild rock. … Debi’s new CD 'Very Derryberry' is destined to be a hit with children and preteens.

This infectious collection of songs, sung in Debi Derryberry’s own voice, includes hard-to-forget originals as well as new arrangements of traditional favorites. There’s a swinging version of “The ABC Song,” a rockabilly-flavored “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” and a funk-based “Wheels on the Bus.”

With the release of her first solo children’s CD, What A Way To Play!, Debi Derryberry has woven together the multiple strands of her career into a collection of fresh sounds for kids … In some ways, this is the CD Derryberry was destined to make; she wrote one of the tracks, “My Dog’s My Buddy,” on her very first guitar when she was just nine. Who knows? Put this CD in your rotation, and maybe you’ll inspire your little one’s own inner singer-songwriter.
– UrbanBaby Daily, February 27, 2006
Derryberry's CD sounds truly inspired, and the compositions are bright and clever. Derryberry's voice is light and clean. She also offers the voice of Jimmy Neutron in the popular cartoon series. She does neat versions of several familiar songs like ``The Wheels on the Bus'' and ``Itsy Bitsy Spider.''
– Bill Wood, Kalamazoo Gazette, June 2006
Children will enjoy these fun and catchy tunes. This collection features engaging and encouraging songs and would be a welcome addition to public library collections.
– School Library Journal, June 2006
The kids may know Debi Derryberry as the voice of TV’s “Jimmy Neutron.” The whole family should get to know her as the creator of What a Way to Play! This 12-song collection starts deceptively slowly, then brings on the beat with “My Dog’s My Buddy.” The song says what dog people know so well — sometimes man’s best friend is your only friend. The album’s hit has to be Derryberry’s funky jazzy rendition of “The Wheels on the Bus.” She creates something new and wonderful from a song that has gone “round and round” a few too many times. Debi’s voice is cartoonish without becoming too shrill. Older fans will enjoy her rediscovery of Burl Ives' “The Lollipop Tree.” There’s a nice balance of old and new. Originals such as “Baby Banana” and the title track mix with well-worn classics such as “Itsy Bitsy Spider.” Jimmy Neutron’s voice is a welcome addition to music for kids.

Debi Derryberry (also the voice of Jimmy Neutron) sings old favorites and original children's songs in this eclectic, playful blend of rock, jazz, blues and country. You and your kids will LOVE it.
– CDBaby.com, editorial review, February 2006
Debi Derryberry is the voice of the popular cartoon character Jimmy Neutron. Drawing upon her many years of experience and expertise playing music, Debi Derryberry's debut CD of children's music, which incorporates an eclectic blend of rock, jazz, blues and country, is an ideal, toe-tapping, hand-clapping entertainment for preschool and kindergarten kids. A highly recommended and deftly recorded collection. – Midwest Book Review, April 2006
At first listen to What a Way to Play, the clear, high-pitched voice emanating from the stereo gives no indication that the singer is mother and renowned industry vet, Debi Derryberry. In addition to her original songs, Derryberry takes on children’s standards with the rock ‘n’ roll, trilingual version of “Itsy Bitsy Spider”; a funky “ABC Song,” featuring harmonica, a bass line melody, and double-time alphabets; and the boogie-woogie rendition of “The Wheels on the Bus” that is anything but the mundane yellow school bus song of older generations. The potentially scary phenomenon of ‘pruny’ skin after a soaking bath finds explanation on “Raisin Fingers,” and the title track advices kids that behaving well is the ‘way to play’ because it “puts you in a super mood!”… A super mood, to be certain, for the parents too!
